THE TEN RULES OF HEALTHY EATING

1. Eat slowly. This gives you time to get a more satisfied feeling. Learn to stop eating when you are no longer hungry. Feeling full is a sign of overeating.
2. Eat smaller portions. Start off with a smaller plate full of food.
3. Take breaks and chew your food. Always put your utensils or hand held food down between bites.
4. Limit eating fast foods especially in your car.
5. Limit sugars and starches. Avoid the five white foods (sugars, breads, potatoes, rice and pastas). Whole grain foods like brown rice and whole wheat breads are better.
6. Eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. Ask what nutrition your foods do have not just what they don’t.
7. Take multivitamins.
8. Avoid fad diets. This is a lifelong commitment to healthier eating.
9. Avoid diet pills. There is no current safe diet pill. Safer medications are being developed.
10. You must do cardiovascular exercise in some form at least 30 minutes 4 to 5 times weekly. Remember once or twice a week is better than not at all.

Remember, results come from discipline, persistence and patience.
